Open a quote from Sidekick

Sidekick could already answer questions about your quotes. Now every quote it names is a link: one click opens that quote in QuotWay, so you never copy a reference number from an answer into a search box.

Prerequisites

  • QuotWay installed on the store you're asking from (any plan, including Lite).
  • Sidekick available in your Shopify admin (free on every Shopify plan).

Nothing to switch on.

Open a quote

  1. Open Sidekick from any page in your Shopify admin.
  2. Ask about your quotes, for example:
    • "Show me my open quotes"
    • "Which quotes are waiting for approval?"
    • "What's the status of QW-1042?"
    • "Show open quotes over $5,000"
  3. Sidekick answers with a table: the quote reference, the buyer, the status and the total, plus a short read on which quotes are most valuable or furthest along.
  4. Click any quote reference. QuotWay opens that quote, loaded and ready.

Prepare a proposal

With a quote open, ask Sidekick to set up the terms:

  • "Prepare a proposal at 10% off"

QuotWay's proposal editor opens with the discount already applied, and then waits. You review the line prices, adjust anything you want, and press Send proposal when you're ready.

Two things to know:

  • Whole-quote terms only. Sidekick stages the discount, the expiry and a covering message. It never touches an individual line price - that stays your decision on every line.
  • Your approval rules still run. A discount Sidekick prepares goes through exactly the same approval policies as one you set yourself. In testing, a 10% discount tripped a "discounts over 10%" approval chain and the editor said so before anything could be sent.

Start a quote

Ask Sidekick to create a quote for a buyer's email address:

QuotWay's new-quote form opens with the buyer email already filled in. Add your products, set your prices, and send it as usual.

What Sidekick will not do

Sidekick reads your quotes, navigates you to them, and prepares work for you to review. It does not:

  • send a proposal, quote or message to a buyer
  • set an individual line price
  • convert a quote into a draft order
  • approve anything, or skip an approval step

Those stay actions you take in QuotWay, with the same confirmation steps as before. The rule that keeps it straight: Sidekick prepares, you commit. If something would still have happened while you were asleep, Sidekick did not do it.

Good to know

  • On every plan. Opening and starting quotes is not gated. Some answers still reflect the features your plan includes - ask about approval workflows on a plan without approvals and there is nothing to report.
  • Your permissions apply. Answers respect each staff member's QuotWay role.
  • One store at a time. Sidekick only reaches apps installed on the store you're asking from. If nothing comes back, check QuotWay is installed there.
  • How this became possible. Sidekick apps plug in through a fixed vocabulary of intent types, and none covered a quote. QuotWay proposed one; Shopify added application/quote to the platform in August 2026 for the whole ecosystem, and QuotWay was first to ship on it.

Troubleshooting

The answer has no clickable references. Check that QuotWay is installed on the store you're asking from, and that your question was about quotes rather than about orders or products.

Nothing comes back at all. Ask a narrower question naming what you want - "show my open quotes" rather than "how is business" - so Sidekick knows to reach for QuotWay.

A question about a feature returns nothing. Answers reflect your plan. If you ask about approvals or per-company analytics on a plan that doesn't include them, there is no data to report - see plans.
