Show a line without showing its price
Read time: 4 minutes. Last updated: September 16, 2026 Who it's for: Merchants quoting items that belong on the quote but shouldn't carry a number. Plan: Per-line buyer visibility is available on the Professional plan and above.
Some lines need to be on the quote without a price beside them - freight you're absorbing, a sample you're including, installation already priced into the main line. Deleting them would misrepresent what the buyer is getting; pricing them at zero and leaving the figure visible invites the wrong conversation.
Set a line's visibility
In the proposal editor, each line has a buyer visibility setting:
| Setting | What the buyer sees |
|---|---|
| Show (default) | The item and its price, as normal. |
| Price hidden | The item, with "Included" where the price would be. |
Set it on the line, then send the proposal. "Included" is what appears on the quote, in the buyer's Shopify customer account, in the hosted portal, and on every PDF.
A price-hidden line must be zero
QuotWay requires a price-hidden line to be 0.00, and won't send a proposal that breaks this. The restriction is the entire point of the feature.
Buyer-facing totals come from the quote's stored total, not from adding up the rows displayed on screen. That's what makes hiding safe: if a line were priced at $500 and its figure simply omitted, the buyer would see a total that is $500 more than the visible lines add up to - and the difference is the hidden price. Anyone can do that subtraction.
So a hidden price is only genuinely hidden when it doesn't move the total. If you need the buyer to pay for something without itemising it, fold the amount into a visible line instead, and use "Included" for the line you're genuinely absorbing.
In short: "Price hidden" means this costs you nothing extra, not we're not telling you what this costs. The first is a commercial gesture; the second is a puzzle your buyer will solve.
Where it shows up
- Quote and customer account - "Included" in place of the amount
- Hosted portal - the same
- Proposal, Confirmation and Pro-Forma PDFs - the line appears with "Included"; totals are unaffected because the line is zero
- Draft order on conversion - the line converts at zero, so the item is on the order the buyer receives
Troubleshooting
The visibility control is locked. It requires the Professional plan or above. A shop that set line visibility while on a higher plan and later downgraded can still see and undo it - the restriction applies to introducing hidden pricing, not to quotes that already carry it.
The proposal won't send. Check for a price-hidden line with a non-zero price. Set it to 0.00, or switch the line back to Show.
